Ukraine may join NATO MAP next year – Taylor

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of USA to Ukraine William Taylor believes Ukraine may join NATO Membership Action Plan next year.

He said this in an interview with Gazeta24 daily published on Nov 3.

According to W.Taylor, for NATO it will be very difficult to make decision on MAP for Ukraine in December because the political stability is a key criteria studied and taken into account by Foreign Ministers before the meeting.

At the same time, the US Ambassador stressed that the next NATO Summit will take place in April of 2009, and a regular meeting of NATO Foreign Ministers is scheduled for the beginning of summer.

The Ambassador stressed that the NATO readiness to propose Ukraine joining the MAP depends on the Ukrainian leadership.
