To provide state financial support for the Ukrainian printed and internet mass media working abroad for 2009 – such was an appeal of the participants of the Days of Diaspora of Ukraine to the President of Ukraine, Prime-Minister and the Head of the Budget Committee of Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. Support of abroad Ukrainian mass media should become one of the first steps in changing state policy of Ukraine regarding Ukrainians who are living abroad. This idea was initiated by European Association of Ukrainians.

Contemporary state policy of Ukraine regarding Ukrainians living abroad is insufficiently effective and needs radical overview aiming to stipulate its activation and reinforcement of the role of Ukraine in the world. This statement was declared by the President of European Association of Ukrainians Oleksiy Tolkachov on the occasion of opening of the Days of Diaspora in Ukraine which were held in Kiev 20-30 of November 2008. Millions of Ukrainians live abroad and annually this number is growing. Ukrainian Diaspora is one of the biggest foreign investors into Ukrainian economy, bearers of the unique experience, knowledge and opportunities. Ukrainians living abroad significantly influence the formation of international image of Ukraine.

On the 23-24 of August, 2008 a solemn celebration dedicated to the Independence Day of Ukraine was held in the capital of European Union. Celebration in Brussels was not held for the first time, it was started last year by European Association of Ukrainians and has already became a good tradition and manifestation of European integration of Ukraine. This year celebration was organized by European Association of Ukrainians mutually with Youth League of Ukraine “Youth Power”, and with support of the Community of football fans “For! Beautiful Football” and Ukrainian International Airlines of Ukraine.

To your attention is a Resolution of a round table “European Integration of Ukraine: role of youth”, that was held in Kiev on the 12th of June 2008. This resolution contains essential suggestions as to youth participant in processes of eurointegration, and therefore were discussed and supported by participants of the round table. Далі

The EBRD today agreed to a donation of €135 million to support international efforts to clean up the site of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, the scene in 1986 of the world’s worst civilian nuclear power disaster. The EBRD contribution is a further step in the efforts by the international community to make the Chernobyl site safe. Далі

The EBRD will hold its Annual Meeting in Kiev on 18-19 May, returning to the Ukrainian capital 10 years after it last staged a meeting there in 1998. Discussions during the two-day session will focus on the progress in the whole EBRD region over the last decade, and especially in Ukraine which in that period has experienced a peaceful political revolution that led to democracy. The European orientation of Ukraine has ceased to be only political declaration and was amplified by actual attempts to integrate into the European and global economic, energy and transport networks.
