Contemporary state policy of Ukraine regarding Ukrainians living abroad is insufficiently effective and needs radical overview aiming to stipulate its activation and reinforcement of the role of Ukraine in the world. This statement was declared by the President of European Association of Ukrainians Oleksiy Tolkachov on the occasion of opening of the Days of Diaspora in Ukraine which were held in Kiev 20-30 of November 2008. Millions of Ukrainians live abroad and annually this number is growing. Ukrainian Diaspora is one of the biggest foreign investors into Ukrainian economy, bearers of the unique experience, knowledge and opportunities. Ukrainians living abroad significantly influence the formation of international image of Ukraine.

On the 23-24 of August, 2008 a solemn celebration dedicated to the Independence Day of Ukraine was held in the capital of European Union. Celebration in Brussels was not held for the first time, it was started last year by European Association of Ukrainians and has already became a good tradition and manifestation of European integration of Ukraine. This year celebration was organized by European Association of Ukrainians mutually with Youth League of Ukraine “Youth Power”, and with support of the Community of football fans “For! Beautiful Football” and Ukrainian International Airlines of Ukraine.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has backed French proposals for the EU to sign an "association" pact with Ukraine in September, amid uncertainty over what the move could mean for Ukraine’s EU membership aspirations.

On the 12 of June 2008 in Kiev a round table on “European Integration of Ukraine: Role of Youth” was held. The aim of this round table was to elaborate specific ideas and ways that would help youth organizations in Ukraine to reinforce the process European integration in Ukraine. After his meeting with Prime Minister Gordon Brown, Victor Yushchenko held press availability on the results of the talks with Mr. Brown. Roundtable “Ukraine-EU: Energy Security Issue” was organised in Brussels by European Association of Ukrainians. On demand of Ukrainian NGOs representatives some amendments were introduced into the text of the concluding statement, adopted by roundtable participants. “European Union and Ukraine: Energy Security Problems” roundtable participants stress the urgency of the problem that was discussed, as well as the constructive character of their discussion.

The participants state that there are complicated and pressing issues concerning organizing a stable communication of the EU countries’ growing needs in hydrocarbon energy carriers and in covering the existing deficit of electrical energy in some EU countries. In our opinion, these issues must be solved in the course of direct talks with all the interested sides: the countries consuming, producing, and transiting the respective resources. Only the policy aimed at taking into account the legal interests of all the energy market participants may be efficient and really common European.  Далі
